Why I Shadow Box
When I started boxing training I began my lesson hitting the air. I felt silly, and I had no idea why I was doing it, but I did what I was told. What did I know. Quickly I learned this was shadow boxing and it's a great warmup before a boxing workout, not to mention it's a smart way to observe and improve your techniques.
Shadow boxing has many benefits and it's so simple you can do it anywhere. There are no drills, no bags to hit and no opponents to avoid. It's you against the air. It's a great way to improve your balance and get into good habits with your technique.
Here's my tips about shadow boxing..
Add movement with your punch. We all know what happens if you stand still in a boxing match. You get hit.
Have a great imagination. Pretend a person you not partially fond of is standing in front of you.
As you get more advanced grab a weight, it will help with strength and speed. Remember ladies the strapless dress.
If you're not sure the correct way to punch just pull up a YouTube video of boxing technique.
Using a mirror will enhance this type of boxing because we can see ourselves.
So ladies, after a stressful day and when you can't bare to go to the gym, move around and hit the air. For more endurance add a weight. You don't have to have weights at home - I have a friend who uses cans of diced tomatoes. Be creative and have an imagination. Shadow box. Hitting air is a great workout!!!!
